The Grand Palace – Bangkok
This is a must see for every visitor to Bangkok, for the Grand Palace Complex- which included Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Pra Keaw ) is unquestionably one of the most wondrous sights in the world today. The Grand Palace is today used by the king only for certain ceremonial occasions such as Coronation Day. Within its grounds is the most exotic Buddhist temple and at the heart of the temple itself is the most fabulous Buddha image cut from one piece of jade - it is the holiest and most revered of all religious objects in Thailand today.
Visitors must be properly dressed before being allowed entry to the temple. Men must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves -- no tank tops. If you're wearing sandals or flip-flops you must wear socks (in other words, no bare feet.) Women must be similarly modestly dressed. No see-through clothes, bare shoulders, etc. If you show up at the front gate improperly dressed, there is a booth near the entry that can provide clothes to cover you up properly.
